I have visited the parks many times, but will be taking one of my first solo trip to Walt Disney World and would like to explore some hidden gems at the parks and resorts. Can you tell me about some little known things to see and do to enhance my visit?

Hiya, Joyce, and welcome to planDisney! Your trip begins soon, and it sounds like you'll be standing independent and strong at Walt Disney World Resort. I'm visualizing one of my favorite Disney characters, Moana! As the sea calls to her, the Disney magic is calling you. Let's talk about some experiences you can have to enrich your visit even more.

As a local, I frequently have a blast visiting the theme parks and resorts solo. I've learned to keep my eyes and ears open so I can be ready to pivot. For example, I'd entered Magic Kingdom Park one morning, and instead of heading straight to an attraction, I lingered at the entrance and took in the sights. I spied one of the Main Street Vehicles and realized I'd never ridden it. I didn't see any available seats, but the driver scooted over so I could ride up front beside her. That ride was pure, unplanned pixie dust!

I know your trip is soon, but check out the Enchanting Extras Collection for any last-minute availability. Tours like Disney's Keys to the Kingdom can add up for a whole family, so I take advantage of solo days to do those. I've also experienced Up Close with Rhinos, the Colors of Coronado Painting Experience, and Sangria University....all by myself.

When I visit alone, I love taking the time to create my own souvenirs. The glass art-making experience at Glaskunst near the Germany Pavilion at EPCOT was fascinating. And at Crystal Wish Keepers at Magic Kingdom, you can design your own colorful and sparkling memento. The prices for these projects vary, but the best part is that I was able to make a keepsake AND memories. These activities are first-come, so no reservations are needed.

If you're looking for complimentary experiences, the Animation Experience at Conservation Station is a blast at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park. I'm not much of an artist, but working with a Disney animator is a true thrill. This activity doesn't require a reservation, and you can check with a Cast Member before you board the Wildlife Express Train to see what character you'll be drawing.

We haven't even talked about dining! When I'm on my own, I like to check walk-up availability, especially at spots that have bar seating. My top pick is Animal Kingdom's Nomad Lounge, where the libations are festive, and the small plates are delicious. I love that you can write a message about travel and discovery that will hang in the lounge. It makes me smile to think of other guests reading my note when I'm miles away.

Joyce, I could literally go on all day about being at the theme parks on my own. I've found it makes me enjoy going with my family in a brand-new way. Your voyage will be smooth sailing! Please stop by planDisney anytime; you never know how far you'll go.

    Magic awaits,
    Elaine
