I have visited Disney many times with my husband and kids but have often thought about a solo trip. What were some of your favorite things about your solo trip and do you have any tips or suggestions for solo travelers?

I'm not trying to be flip here, but my favorite part of my solo trip is that I was alone. Like any mom, I constantly pay attention to other people's needs. My solo trip was the first time in 10 years that I got to do exactly what I wanted to do, when I wanted to do it. I sat by the pool and read. I exercised. I watched girl-movie DVDs, uninterrupted. I wrote in my journal. I flossed and exfoliated.  And that was just the first day.

But why Disney? Why not a spa or a big city? Well, I’m not really a spa person and I am near NYC so I always have that available. Also, I’m not sure I would feel safe in an unfamiliar city by myself. The security at WDW is top-notch and this is important to me.

I also went to WDW because I enjoy WDW. I watched the musicians on Main Street. (Hubby always wants to “keep moving.”) I completed my personal quest to have ridden every ride at WDW. I did a crossword puzzle in the wonderful atmosphere in England at Epcot. I, personally, found that very relaxing. And when I wanted to interact with people, I could chat with other guests and wonderful cast members.

My main tips for a solo traveler would be stay safe and have fun. While you’re traveling alone anywhere, keep your room number private, etc. Solo travel is a special experience. You can make it be whatever YOU want. (And ssshhh, I loved it so much, I now have another solo trip coming up).
