Hi there, Kevin! We're glad to see you back here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel!
Gran Destino Tower is the brand new addition to the reimagined
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, and it is located next to the 22-acre Lago Dorado, which translates to "Golden Lake." The name Destino comes from an animated short film that was initially a collaboration between Walt and surrealist artist, Salvador Dali in the 1940s. The Spanish influence is seen throughout the tower, but I love that the Imagineers sprinkled lots of Hidden Mickeys all around!
My Prince Charming and I stayed here last fall for our 20th anniversary, and although we had booked a Water View Room, none were available when we checked in. The Cast Member at the front desk sensed my disappointment but assured me that the Standard View Rooms were equally as lovely. Let me tell you, there's nothing better after a magical (and exhausting) day in the Parks, than being able to watch the fireworks from both Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios from the comfort of your (Standard View) room! Although not all the Standard View Rooms have these panoramic views, I suggest requesting a room on one of the upper floors- we were on the 14th floor.
Speaking of upper floors, Gran Destino's elevators have a fancy touch screen where you choose your destination. When you press which floor you'd like to go to, the screen tells you which elevator is ready. I highly recommend taking it up to the 16th level, where you'll find
Dahlia Lounge. This is where my husband and I spent a couple of relaxed evenings, enjoying some tapas and the beautiful backside look at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
Toledo - Tapas, Steak & Seafood is the rooftop restaurant located next door. Both of these places offer views of the nighttime shows,
Epcot Forever and
Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular.
I hope you have a magical time, Kevin! Please write back if there's anything else you need!
