I have an upcoming cruise out of Fort Lauderdale on the Disney Dream ship. I see the policy for alcohol is 2 bottles per adult into your carry on bag. I was wondering if I can bring cans of soda on the boat and if they need to also be in my carry on?

    Ahoy, Karlie!

Welcome aboard planDisney! Your upcoming sailing on the Disney Dream sounds, well… dreamy! I’m so excited for you and your crew to experience all the magic onboard. I also love that you’re thinking ahead about beverages—it’s a great way to make sure your cruise is smooth sailing from the very start.

You’re spot on about the alcohol policy: adults 21 and over may bring two unopened bottles of wine or Champagne (750 ml or less) or six beers (12 ounces or less) in their carry-on bag at the beginning of the cruise and at each port of call. (Alas, no hard liquor—Captain Jack Sparrow would not approve, but rules are rules!) Just like with alcohol, any non-alcoholic beverages you bring, like soda or bottled water, must also be in your carry-on luggage. There’s no official limit to how many sodas you can bring, but keep in mind that you’ll need to carry that bag with you until staterooms are ready—usually around 1:30 PM—so you’ll want to pack smart. Lugging around a case of soda while you’re trying to snag that first slice of pizza at Flo’s Café might not be as fun as it sounds.

Now, the great news for soda lovers is that if your favorite happens to be a Coca-Cola product, you may not even need to bring much with you! Complimentary soda is available at the Beverage Stations on the pool deck, in Cabanas, and even in the main dining rooms—just ask your server. My family and I definitely take advantage of this, and sometimes we even turn it into dessert. Here’s a fun tip: grab a cup from the Beverage Station, add some soft-serve ice cream from Eye Scream Treats, and top it off with your favorite soda. Root beer floats are a rare treasure onboard, but a Coke float makes a pretty magical substitute!

I hope this helps you feel shipshape and ready for your upcoming sailing! Whether you bring a few of your favorite sodas from home or stick with the unlimited onboard options, you’re sure to stay refreshed as you sip, splash, and soak up every magical moment at sea.

Sea ya real soon with a July full of fireworks at sea and memories that sparkle like pixie dust,
