Hi Luke!
Thanks for visiting planDisney!
Yes, there have been some big changes to the Lightning Lane system at Disney World! Back in July 2024, Genie+ was replaced with Lightning Lane Multi Pass. And Individual Lightning Lanes were replaced with Lightning Lane Single Pass. There’s also been a brand new system launched called Lightning Lane Premier Pass.
Let’s do a quick breakdown:
Lightning Lane Multi Pass gives you access to book Lightning Lanes via the My Disney Experience app. It includes
several attractions at each park. But there are some key differences between the old Genie+ service and Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
You are now able to purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass and pre-select 3 Lightning Lanes for your park day before your trip even begins. So, right off the bat, you know you’ll have 3 Lightning Lanes ready to go for your park day. In addition to that, every single time you scan into a Lightning Lane during your park day, you’ll be able to book another one pending availability.
Lightning Lane Single Pass is an “a la carte” Lightning Lane that you can book for
select attractions in each park. These attractions are not included in Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and you can book up to 2 Lightning Lane Single Passes for each park day. You do not need to purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass in order to book Lightning Lane Single Pass. But you can purchase both if you’d like.
Finally,
Lightning Lane Premier Pass allows you to go through any Lightning Lane one time at one park without having to book any reservations. Although it’s pricier than the other two options, there’s no stress over Lightning Lane availability or worrying about making it to an attraction during a specific timeframe throughout your park day. It’s the most flexible option by far! It’s good to note, that at the time of writing this, Lightning Lane Premier Pass is
only available to Disney World resort guests and select good neighbor hotel guests.
Your
booking window for these Lightning Lane services varies based on where you’re staying during your Disney World vacation. If you’re staying at a Disney World resort or select good neighbor hotel, you’ll be able to purchase and book your Lightning Lanes for your entire trip beginning at 7 AM Eastern, 7 days prior to your check-in date.
If you’re staying off property, your booking window opens 3 days in advance of your first park day at 7 AM Eastern. You’ll be able to book your Lightning Lanes for your entire trip at that time if you have date-based tickets.
The price for each of these services may vary per day. And you can choose which park days you want to purchase them for (you do not need to purchase them for every park day if you don’t want to!). You’ll do all of your Lightning Lane purchasing and booking right on your My Disney Experience app.
Hopefully that helps! Feel free to come back with any questions you have.
