    I understand you can't ride w/backpacks, bags, etc. What do you do with them while riding and are they safe? I'm sure I will have my camera in the bag and would hate to lose it.

    If you want to leave a bag in a safe place, there are lockers available for rent near the entrance to each park. Prices can change, but in January 2008, the small lockers were renting for $10.00 per day, with a $5.00 rebate with key return.

    But actually you CAN take your backpack with you on the rides. I have been on every ride at WDW and have never had to leave my bag behind. On most attractions, you can just put your bag on the seat next to you and enjoy the ride. In fact on many rides you'll want to have your camera out to take photos of the attraction. Some of my favorite WDW photos are of my daughter's face as we're rounding a sharp turn in the middle of Big Thunder Mountain.

    There are some minor exceptions to the bag-on-the-seat-next-to-you plan; for a few of the thrill rides you have to do a bit of juggling of the bag to get it secure. For example, on Space Mountain, I have worn a backpack on my front. Or you might want to place it by your feet with a foot through the straps. This way the pack would be secure and the ride's safety harness is able to protect you properly. On Soarin' (at Epcot) there is a bin just under your seat that you can place your bag in while you're on the ride.

    Really the only rides that I would be at all concerned about having a bag with you are those that involve water, specifically the Kali River Rapids ride at the Animal Kingdom. This a ride in which you WILL get wet and you may get SOAKED. I have left that attraction several times wet to the bone, even if I was covered by a plastic poncho. The ride does have bins on each vehicle where you are supposed to stow your gear. These are theoretically safe from water, but in reality I have had items in these bins get seriously wet. If you are going to ride the Rapids, I would suggest asking a store clerk for two large plastic shopping bags. Place your backpack in these two layers of plastic and you should be fine.
