Hiya Heather! Welcome to planDisney!
One of my favorite things to do when visiting the
Walt Disney World Resort is to build in a day to visit the water parks. While many Guests may overlook them at times, they are a ton of fun and completely worth the trip.
There are two water parks currently at Walt Disney World.
Typhoon Lagoon and
Blizzard Beach both have similar aspects but are themed completely differently. In recent years, only one has been operating at a time. It seems that when Blizzard Beach temporarily closes, Typhoon Lagoon will then re-open, and vice versa. At this moment, Blizzard Beach opened back up at the beginning of November and I would expect it to stay open until early Spring. Last year, Typhoon Lagoon re-opened in the middle of March. If they follow the same timeline, look for an announcement to be made in the next month. To do so, your best bet will be to follow along to the
Disney Parks Blog for any news and updates.
Depending on what time of year you are visiting will help determine which Water Park will be open. If you have your heart set on Typhoon Lagoon, I would plan a stay sometime in the Spring or Summer. Again, there has not been a reopening date announced yet. This information is solely based on previous years.
If you end up visiting Typhoon Lagoon, make sure to spend as much time as you can in
Castaway Creek. This is their version of a lazy river and it is not only relaxing but packed with fun elements. If you're looking for an exhilarating attraction, the
Crush 'n' Gusher is the perfect thrill ride. Grab a partner for this one and go have a blast!
Heather, I hope this information helps you plan for your stay!
