Splish splash, Wes, and welcome to planDisney! You'll be wading through the
Walt Disney World Resort magic before Donald Duck can jump in a puddle, so let's look at weather-related procedures during your visit.
Florida is known for its unpredictable weather. I've lived in the panhandle for years and have learned to go with the flow. They say if you don't like the weather in the Sunshine State, wait five minutes! Since showers and thunderstorms are common and often brief, most attractions at the
theme parks and water parks continue to operate during inclement weather. I've found that waits are typically shorter and cooler when it rains. I always pack my trusty poncho and just keep swimming!
Lightning and strong winds can cause concern; some attractions might close temporarily until the weather passes. At
Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, lightning strikes could prompt an announcement for guests to evacuate certain areas of the park. In that case, I recommend heading to
Singapore Sal's for indoor shopping until it passes. Beach towels are a practical and fun souvenir!
If the weather worsens, the water park might close for the day. You'll hear an announcement asking you to leave the park, and depending on the time of day, Cast Members could offer rain checks. Refunds are rarely given, but a ticket to return might be provided for future use, especially if the park was only open for a few hours. Rain checks are up to the staff's discretion, but it never hurts to ask.
My final tip is to check the
Weather Updates & Information page to stay informed about alerts and conditions impacting the theme parks during your visit.
Wes, I hope your visit offers calm seas! Please
stop by planDisney anytime; we love to "dive in" and help guests plan magical vacations.
Magic awaits,
