Hello, we are two families going to WDW. If we book separate lighting lanes so each family can pay for their own, can we then go back, and one person in one of the families modify the families rides together? Or can we do this in the park?

    Hi Cassiopeia!

It’s great to see you back here at planDisney! Thanks for making us one of your go-to resources when planning your trip!

While you’re more than welcome to modify Lightning Lane return times (pending availability) after booking them, the system will currently only allow you to modify the Lightning Lane for the Guests it was initially booked for. So, you won’t be able to modify the time for some of your party and add in others during the process.

If you don’t want to put one person in charge of booking all the Lightning Lane pre-selections, your best bet will be to book your Lightning Lane pre-selections, then have one family go back and try to match up return times as close as possible. You could also have everyone cancel a Lightning Lane, then have someone go back in and rebook it. But that could risk not being able to get a Lightning Lane for that attraction, depending on how popular it is.

It’s good to note that you will be able to scan into a Lightning Lane up to 5 minutes early and 15 minutes late, so there is a little wiggle room when trying to overlap your return times with the other family.

On your park day, once everyone in both families has scanned into a Lightning Lane, you can book any other available Lightning Lane. And at that point, whoever is in charge of booking the Lightning Lane will be able to select the whole travel party as long as you’re linked via the Family & Friends List

One more thing to think about before I let you go! At this time, you can see the Lightning Lane prices up to 3 weeks in advance. So, that may help you budget ahead of time or help you determine if you’d like to choose one person to book all of the Lightning Lane pre-selections or book separately.

To check out the pricing, click the “Purchase” button under the Lightning Lane Multi Pass/Single Pass section or Lightning Lane Premier Pass section on the homepage of your My Disney Experience app. On the next page, right under the calendar, click “View Pricing by Park.” There, you can click through the different parks and passes to see what the prices will be during your trip.

I hope that helps! Of course, if you have any other questions, feel free to reach back out. Have the best trip!
