Trying to reserve dining and I am a party of 2 and it only gives me about 4 options, but if I change it to a family of 4, it gives me about 10. Why?

    Hello Karrie!

You're as welcome as can be at planDisney. I'm so glad you stopped by with this question today because I had a similar experience during a visit to Walt Disney World Resort a few months ago. Let's dig into the details!

My best guess is that advance dining reservation availability is auto-populated based on the specific table sizes at various Table Service restaurants in the parks and resorts. The system likely has a set limit of tables for 2 and doesn't automatically recognize that a party of 2 can occupy a 4-seat table. I'm sure this is done in an effort to accommodate the maximum number of guests at a time, since like you, plenty of others are hoping to enjoy a mouthwatering dining experience. There are likely also maximum occupancy limits in place which will vary by venue.

I was forced to cancel a sought-after dining reservation due to unforeseen travel delays and felt defeated when I couldn't find another table for 2 available later in my trip. Like you, I noticed that although a 2-seat table reservation wasn't available, I was able to find availability when searching for a party of 4. You may also see this when searching for a party of 3 since most would be seated at a 4-seat table. I went ahead and made the reservation for 3 guests and once confirmed, I immediately went back in to modify my party size down to 2 guests. Your experience may vary but that worked for me in this particular instance.

If you'd rather not go to the trouble of making and modifying reservations you can keep an eye out for openings as your trip approaches. Guests' plans change all the time and it's not unheard of for same-day dining availability to open. Keep in mind that a credit card guarantee is in place for dining reservations not canceled according to restaurant policy.

I'd also recommend checking out the Disney Eats: Foodie Guide to Holidays at the Disneyland Resort 2023 before your visit. It's a sleighful of holly jolly information on all the festive treats around the resort. If I were you, I'd make plans to Mobile Order a Thanks-mas Sandwich and a classic Mickey Gingerbread cookie both available from Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe. You'll be feeling merry and bright before you know it.

I hope this was helpful Karrie! If we can answer any additional planning questions please don't hesitate to come back and ask us.

    Magic and memories,
    Amy
