Hello Laurie!
You’ve booked one our my family’s favorites,
Disney’s Old Key West Resort! This resort is truly a hidden gem. We love the large rooms, laid-back atmosphere, large pool area, and delicious dining choices. Make sure to leave time on your trip for a visit to the feature pool area, and I highly recommend
Oliva’s Cafe, the table service restaurant at the resort. We love their dinner menu, and while I haven’t dined there for breakfast yet, I know it is also very popular.
First, let me start with the less magical news. Currently, the boat service from Disney’s Old Key West Resort to
Disney Springs has not resumed operation, and no details have been released as to when we can expect it to return. I’m not sure when your visit is planned for, but stay tuned to the
Walt Disney World Water Transportation webpage for updates!
If the boat service to Disney Springs resumes operation in time for your visit, the good news is that these boats traditionally have been easily handicap accessible. There is a ramp down to the dock, and ECV’s and wheelchairs can be wheeled directly onto the boat without the Guest even needing to get out of the vehicle. You’d also be able to disembark the same way upon arrival at the Disney Springs boat dock, and that location also has an easily navigated ramp. This should make it easier for your Guests with canes as well.
Laurie, one thing I want you to be aware of is that many rooms at Disney’s Old Key West Resort are on upper floors, and not all buildings have elevators. If you haven’t specifically booked a handicap-accessible room, I would highly recommend you
call Disney to have your specific needs noted on your reservation. You’ll want to request a ground floor room or one of the buildings that do have an elevator due to your Guest’s mobility needs.
I hope this helps with your planning, Laurie, and I hope to see more questions from you as you plan your visit to the most magical place on earth!
Have a Magical Day!
