Hi Kimberly,
Welcome to planDisney! Disney World has revamped its
Services for Guests with Mobility Needs so I highly recommend checking out the guide. There is a ton of information on all the ways you will be able to more easily access the theme parks and make the most of out of your time at Disney World.
Some rides and attractions
allow you to remain in your ECV to enjoy them. Most of these will have plenty of legroom for you as well. The majority of experiences where you can remain in your ECV will be shows, walk-through attractions, and character experiences. At Magic Kingdom, for example, you can remain in an ECV for Country Bear Musical Jamboree, Jungle Cruise, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, and Liberty Square Riverboat. If you are willing to transfer to a wheelchair from your ECV, it opens up a
few more ride options. Some of the notable ones will be Kilimanjaro Safaris, Toy Story Mania!, Living With the Land, Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, Walt Disney World Railroad, Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, and "it's a small world." All of these options allow you to roll the wheelchair right onto the ride and offer a vehicle with more legroom or space for guests accompanying you.
If you are willing to transfer to a wheelchair from your ECV and then to a ride vehicle, you will be able to experience most of the rides at Disney World but there will be several in this category that may be more difficult to get in and out of. Cast members will be willing to assist you in the process of the transfer to help ensure you can make the transfer safely. They typically have separate load and unload areas where you will have a little more time to make the transfer.
I think the easiest way to review which rides and attractions will accommodate my entire party is by reviewing the accessibility maps for each theme park.
Magic Kingdom,
EPCOT,
Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom each have an online version of these maps. They are also available at the entrance to each theme park when you arrive.
Happy Planning,
Jenna
