I am trying to dedcide were to stay at WDW. We have three children 8,7, and 4, so there will be five of us. My top two choices are the Port Orleans or the Contemperary. Which is better in regards to transportation, food options, and overall convience?

From all the perspectives you list the Contemporary is much better.

For transportation, the Contemporary has in-house monorail access to the Magic Kingdom, there are also buses everywhere, and boats to the MK and some of the other resorts. From the Contemporary, you could also walk to the Magic Kingdom. At Port Orleans, your only option to get to the theme parks is a bus, which may make several stops along the way.

For food, the Contemporary has more restaurants, and a wider variety of restaurants than Port Orleans.

For convenience: the Contemporary is much less spread out than Port Orleans. At PO, you might have to walk ten minutes just to get to the food court.

So, the Contemporary is more convenient, but it is also more expensive than Port Orleans. And expense can be a big factor in planning a vacation. Port Orleans is a lovely place. It's very well maintained, with beautiful grounds. It's just not quite as close to the action as the Contemporary.
