We are trying to decide if it is worth using the dining plan. I've had weight loss surgery and can eat very little. We would like to do several of the character buffets. I'm wondering if they will allow me to pay the kids rate - any idea?

Hi, Mary!  Welcome to Loserville!  I had weight loss surgery 4 years ago, and lost 150 pounds while still enjoying dining around Walt Disney World!

In my opinion, unless someone in your family is going to eat your leftovers, then the dining plan is not going to be worth it for you.  There is WAY too much food on the dining plan for you to ever be able to eat it all, especially if you are still early in your surgical recovery.  In my first year following surgery, it was hard to finish some of the appetizers at Walt Disney World, let alone a full meal.  If however you have kids with you that might benefit from sharing meals with you because the kids meal won't be enough, then it might be a different story.  I just know for me, even now, it would be tough to eat all the food on the dining plan.

As far as the buffets, your surgeon can give you a card that kindly requests restaurants allow you to order from the children's menu or pay a child's price for a meal at restaurants.  If your surgeon doesn't have the cards (mine did not), you can ask him to write a on a prescription pad the same request.  It is purely up to the discretion of the restaurant what they will allow.  I will tell you in my experiences, they charged me a child's price at many of the buffets with the prescription proof of my surgery; and in one case, when I was still on a soft food diet and drinking only protein shakes, the Garden Grill charged me only a $10 "entertainment fee", as I was unable to eat anything.

Have an amazing time, and continued good luck with your journey!
