Jennifer from UT Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

We are trying to decide between the 1st week of March or the 3rd week of May starting May 15th in 2027 to visit Disneyworld. As far as weather and crowds go, which one would you recommend? I did read the Princess Half marathon may make it busier in March.

Hi Jennifer! I’m so glad you stopped by planDisney with such a great question. Choosing the right time to visit Walt Disney World Resort is a little like picking your favorite Disney treat; there’s no wrong answer, but each option has its own flavor of magic!

You’re right that the first week of March often lines up with the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend, which does bring extra Guests into the Resort. Add in the start of spring break season for many schools, and you’ll likely see heavier crowds. The weather is usually nice (mild and comfortable), but keep in mind that early spring in Florida can bring cool mornings and evenings, so packing layers is a smart move.

May tends to offer lighter crowds than March since spring breaks are winding down and most summer vacations haven’t yet begun. The trade-off is the weather: May in Florida is warm and humid, with a higher chance of afternoon showers as you start edging toward summer. But those quick rain showers can sometimes work in your favor by clearing out the walkways a bit and giving you a reason to duck into a favorite attraction or snack spot.

If I had to choose between the two, I’d lean toward May for a balance of manageable crowds and longer park hours, especially if your family doesn’t mind the warmer weather. Before I relocated to Florida, May was our go-to time to visit. It was always a special Mother’s Day treat for me, plus a visit to our favorite EPCOT festival, the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival! And now, speaking as a Floridian, there’s something extra magical about those balmy May evenings. The air feels alive, the parks are buzzing with energy, and watching the fireworks dazzle over Cinderella Castle on a warm night is pure Disney bliss.

Jennifer, no matter which dates you choose, you’re going to make memories that will last a lifetime. My advice is to decide if cooler weather or lighter crowds matter most to your family, and let that guide your pick! But you can’t go wrong with either choice. You’re going to be at the most magical place on earth, after all!

I hope this helps guide you as you start dreaming up and planning your visit. Please do come back and see us once you’ve locked in your dates, so we can start diving into the rest of the plans of your enchanted visit!

    See ya real soon,
