travelling with 12, We have upgraded to a Villa, thinking kitchen would allow us to make or pack meals and snacks, then splurge on 2-3 nicer meals. Is this reasonable? If buy meal plans, prob have to stay value hotel instead. do all have to do same plan?

    Hi Tessily,

Let me answer your last question first. Yes, everyone staying in the same room at a Walt Disney World resort must be on the same version of the Disney Dining Plan. You have to all be either on or off the plan. And you all have to have the same type of plan.

I think your plan of staying in a villa and using the kitchen for most meals is a perfectly reasonable one. To me, for breakfast, a bowl of cereal is a bowl of cereal. And for lunch, I'm fine with a turkey sandwich or burger if I make it myself or if I buy it from a quick service restaurant. But I do really enjoy having a nice dinner.

Think about it this way: Will you remember your sandwich in the park? Probably not. Will you remember a character meal or fine dining experience? Probably yes. To me, that's where you should spend your money.

If you're looking for more information about cooking in the villa kitchens, I'm going to point you to a series of articles on an independent website DisneyFoodBlog.com. (Full disclosure: I wrote the articles.) Look for the four part series called, "Disney Food for Families: The DVC Villa Kitchens." You'll see photos of the kitchen equipment and get ideas for shopping for food and supplies. You might also be interested in an article there called "13 Questions and Answers About Bringing Your Own Food to the Disney Theme Parks."

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know if you have additional questions.
