I will be travelling prior to boarding the Magic in Puerto Rico and I will have a small drone with me. I know it is forbidden to bring it on board but I was wondering if there was some place to store it while I was on the cruise.

    Welcome, Samuel!

As my pal Mickey Mouse would say, “oh, boy!” Traveling and exploring plus a Disney Cruise Line vacation sounds like a dreamy plan. From the looks of it, you’re embarking on one of my bucket-list itineraries, an 8-Night Southern Caribbean Cruise from San Juan, Puerto Rico aboard the beautiful Disney Magic. We share a love of adventure and a hobby of recording our travels with fun technology, so I’m happy to help you think this through.

Thank you for reviewing the list of prohibited items and planning ahead for what to bring onboard. You are correct that drones are on the list and would be confiscated if found in your carry-on or checked luggage when going through security at the Port of San Juan terminal. While confiscated items are labeled and returned to you at the end of your cruise, I know you’ll want to find a safe place to secure your drone and tech accessories for peace of mind while you are sailing away.

Due to security regulations, no airport or port terminal in the United States and its territories allow long-term luggage or other storage on site. There is also no parking at the Port of San Juan, but public parking facilities are in the area surrounding the port on a first-come, first-served basis, if you drive to the port and want to secure your items in a vehicle until you return.

I recently learned of a growing trend in luggage storage facilities and companies offering this service in many travel-friendly cities. They offer storage for your bags for a variety of scenarios, such as when getting off the ship and wanting to explore the city for a day before going to the airport. In researching your question, I chatted with a friendly Disney Cruise Line Crew Member who came to the same conclusion. I suggest you conduct a web search for “luggage storage” in San Juan, Puerto Rico to find a reputable company to securely store a bag for you that contains your drone and anything else you want to unload for this part of your journey. I would do this for my own technology and additional items knowing it was kept under watch and held safely for me while I was away.

I just sailed aboard the lovely Disney Magic and you’re going to have a wonderful time, Samuel! Don’t miss the special performance of Tangled: The Musical – my family adored this stage production of a favorite animated tale. I’m also happy to share with you the following special evenings for your specific itinerary leaving May 5, 2023:

    • Monday, At Sea – Formal Night
    • Tuesday, Bonaire – Pirate Night
    • Friday, At Sea – Semi-Formal Night

The rest of your evenings are planned as Cruise Casual. While entertainment and this exact schedule is subject to change, I hope this helps you plan your packing and stay organized for this multi-faceted journey.

Please let me know what other questions you have as you look forward to this special vacation.

    Bon voyage,
    Amy
