Hi there, Remi! It sounds like you have a wonderful summer trip in the works, and I’d love to help you tee it up for success!
First, let’s talk about Shades of Green. It’s such a special retreat for military families due to its spacious rooms, peaceful surroundings, and unbeatable location right in the heart of the magic. While it was originally built as The Golf Resort back in the 1970s, today it still keeps that love of the links alive, making it a dream spot for golf lovers like your husband!
Now, about walking to the monorail...due to major roadwork and the expansion of Floridian Way, the walkway between Shades of Green and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has been permanently closed. I know many guests enjoyed that peaceful stroll, so it’s certainly a disappointing change. But the good news is that Shades of Green provides dedicated buses to the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), where you can easily hop on the monorail to explore the Magic Kingdom area resorts or head into EPCOT. Just be sure to have your military ID handy when boarding the Shades of Green shuttle.
As for your husband’s golf plans, the Park Hopper Plus option includes a round at
Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course, which is a lovely nine-hole walking course, ideal for beginners or those looking for a relaxed pace. Unfortunately, that benefit can’t be transferred or applied as a discount toward a round at
Magnolia Golf Course. That said, Magnolia is a championship-level course that has hosted PGA legends for decades, complete with that iconic Mickey-shaped bunker! If your husband enjoys a tougher course and more of a challenge, Magnolia is the place to be.
There are ways to save on a round at Magnolia.
Discounts are available for U.S. military members (with valid ID), Disney Vacation Club Members, Annual Passholders, and AAA Diamond participants. And if he’s open to playing on a weekday or
during twilight hours, those tee times often come with a nice discount, too.
I hope this helps you feel a bit more prepared, Remi! I have no doubt your vacation will be full of magical memories, whether your husband’s favorite souvenirs are scorecards or Mickey pretzels. If you have any more questions as your trip gets closer, feel free to reach out!
Wishing you a summer filled with magic, laughter, and maybe even a birdie or two,
Eean
