Hi Derek!
Welcome to planDisney! What a special trip you have coming up!
I'm happy to report that you’ll be able to use
Rider Switch with or without a Lightning Lane. Here’s a quick breakdown of how it will work each way.
If you don’t have a Lightning Lane for an attraction, one adult will wait in the standby queue while the other stays back with your little one. Once they’re done riding, the adult who was originally waiting will be able to enter the attraction via the Lightning Lane. That way you won’t have two longer wait times!
If you both have a
Lightning Lane booked for the attraction, one adult will enter the attraction via the Lightning Lane while the other waits. After they’re done riding, the second adult will also enter through the Lightning Lane to enjoy the attraction.
No matter which way you decide to use Rider Switch, make sure you chat with the Cast Member at the entrance to the queue prior to the first adult riding to get it all set up.
Now, as far as needing to use Rider Switch if both adults have a Lightning Lane Single Pass for an attraction goes…my husband and I have done it both ways! If we make it to the attraction with plenty of time for both of us to make it through within our return time, we usually won’t even worry about setting up Rider Switch. However, if we arrive at the attraction toward the end of our return time, then we’ll make sure to talk with a Cast Member to get it all set up, just in case the first adult doesn’t make it through the queue in time. It’s always a game-time decision for us!
One quick tip before I let you go! The Baby Care Center in Animal Kingdom is pretty close to
Flight of Passage. And the same goes for the Baby Care Center in Epcot, being close to
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind! That would be a great spot to take your infant during the wait time when using Rider Switch. The
Baby Care Centers offer a nice, quiet, air-conditioned space for changings and feedings. It was always the perfect place to go with our little one to get away from the hustle and bustle when needed.
I hope that helps! And if you have any other questions about your first Disney World trip with an infant, feel free to reach back out! We’re more than happy to help!
