I am traveling with a group of 6 for my next trip, one of which is in a wheelchair. We are looking at the cabins at Fort Wilderness but are worried that this may be too large for wheelchair. Are the handicapped cabins close to the essentials?

    Hi Hallie!

Having experienced a fantastic stay at the Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, I can say without a doubt, that it was one of the best vacations ever.  FW affords guest the opportunity to stay in a rustic cabin, complete with wood beams and western flair, while enjoying the perks of staying at a Disney hotel.

They have approximately 13 accessible cabins, complete with ramp, roll-in shower, and grab bars, throughout the property.  The cabins are 18 inches wider than regular cabins, and provide plenty of room for the whole family.  The only caveat to this is the resort is quite expansive.  In order to reach the common areas, you will need to bring your wheelchair onto the internal bus system.  The only problem may be the boat that heads to Magic Kingdom, which may not be able to accommodate the wheelchair.  In that instance, you can take the bus to Wilderness Lodge and then transfer to the bus to Magic Kingdom.

Hope this helps you plan your magical vacation!
