Hiya, Havi, and welcome to planDisney. As someone who has raised a teenager, I know how much they like having their own space. Let's look at the
Walt Disney World Resort policies to see how your resort stay can offer them that.
I spoke with a mature Cast Member named Serena who said the policy for booking a
Disney Resort Hotel stay is that each room must have a lead guest 18 years or older. That guest must show a valid photo ID at check-in and have a credit card on file. Remember that a guest may only be the lead guest for one hotel room at a time.
If you have more than one lead guest over 18, you can divide them into separate rooms. Once all guests have checked in, it's up to their discretion to stay where they like. Just so you know, resort Cast Members can request any occupancy changes for safety concerns.
My advice would be to book rooms at the same resort. Before arriving, you can also request adjoining rooms by calling
Disney Resort Hotel Reservations. Although there's no guarantee, they will note your situation and attach it to your reservation.
I have visited Disney many times with teenagers, and although they were well-behaved, I still liked being close by. We found that having adjoining rooms gave them some privacy and independence, but we were a quick knock-knock away if needed. Teens are sometimes less self-reliant than they think!
My final tip is to call that reservations line to explain the details of your travel party and what you'd like to accomplish. They'll be able to give you advice based on those specifics.
Havi, I'm waving my Fairy Godmother wand so your visit next year is full of magical memories for you and your teens. Please
stop by planDisney anytime!
Magic awaits,
Elaine
