We are traveling to Disney World in January 2012 & have the meal plan (quick service) on our package. I've been trying to find out how the ordering actually works. Can we order a meal (say a hamburger w/ fries), or is it all a cart ordering/

Hi, Cheryl! Congratulations on your upcoming trip! It will be here before you know it! Yes, you will be able to order meals.  For lunch and dinner, you are entitled to a non-alcoholic beverage, an entree, and a dessert.  The entree often includes a side (or two).  So your burger and fries example works because the fries are the side.  For breakfast you are entitled to a non-alcoholic beverage and an entree.  You can read more about the 2012 Dining Plans here.  Just be sure to select the 2012 Quick-service plan PDF.  Happy planning and have a Magical vacation!
