Welcome aboard, Deena! I love Rome! I'm thrilled to hear that you're taking your children on this magical adventure. They're at such great ages to enjoy this experience!
There are plenty of great Port Adventures in Rome, but if you're looking to get a feel for the major attractions in the city, like the Colosseum, St. Peter's Square and Basilica at the Vatican, the Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps, I highly recommend the
Highlights of Rome adventure, which visits all of those locations, plus some great extra time to explore in those areas.
Now, if the extra cost isn't a problem, I'd even more strongly recommend
Highlights of Rome For Families. Disney offers some Port Adventures in big ports like Civitavecchia (Rome) that feature Exclusive Youth Activities. The adventures I've experienced with these Youth Activities are simply the best! Besides the attractions that you'll visit (St. Peter's Square and Basilica at the Vatican, and the Colosseum), you'll also have a fabulous three-course lunch at a local Roman restaurant, then the kids get to head off with the Disney Cruise Line Youth Counselors to enjoy a Roman puppet show and learn about the art of Italian puppetry, while the adults get some time on their own to shop and explore in the town. What a great plus! Lots of family time together, plus a real Roman cultural experience for the kids and some time to shop and take in the sights and sounds of Rome without the kids for a bit too.
I only wish the Magic stayed in Rome for a few days so you could experience some of the other adventures too! I hope those suggestions help as you choose the adventures for your exciting cruise, Deena! Have a magical cruise!
