We are traveling to Disney Dec. 20-27th. My children have never been before and this is a surprise trip for them. How bad will the crowds be during this time. Also, how is the weather typically during this time. We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge.

    Casey,

A surprise trip will be so fun!  Crowds during Christmas week are the highest Disney ever has, so you should definitely plan on that.  In fact, parks may fill to capacity and close to further guests, so pick the park you'd like to be in on Christmas day and get there early...and plan on staying!  If you leave you may be denied re-entry and would have to switch to another park (if you have the hopper option).  For help managing the heavy crowds, I suggest you consider using the services at www.tourguidemike.com

The average high in December is 63 degrees.  However, I have often worn shorts and tees in the parks during the day, and found I only needed more in the evenings.  Layers are your friend, so be sure to pack things you can easily peel on and off.  There's not generally a lot of rain in December, but just to be safe I'd still pack a poncho.

The Wilderness Lodge is one of my favorite Disney resorts, and it is especially beautiful at Christmas.  The tree in the lobby is HUGE, and a great photo op.  You might also consider a sleigh ride this time of year.  They have them at the WIlderness Lodge and the nearby Ft. Wilderness Resort & Campground, and I hear the latter is the more attractive route.

    Have a wonderful vacation!
