Hi Jenna!
Thanks for bringing this question to planDisney!
Typically, when using
Rider Switch, your party will break up into two groups. The first group will go through the standby queue while the second group waits with the non-rider(s). Then the second group will get to go through the Lightning Lane while the first group waits with the non-rider(s).
If everyone wants to enter the attraction through the Lightning Lane, then everyone riding will need to have booked a
Lightning Lane. Because of that, my husband and I usually only use Rider Switch in that case if we get to the Lightning Lane toward the end of the return time and we don’t think we’ll both be able to make it through in time.
When you’re ready to use Rider Switch, just let the Cast Member at the entrance to the queue know, and they’ll get you all set up!
Remember, those waiting don’t need to stay right next to the attraction. I like to use that time to grab a snack, take a bathroom break, find a fun play area for the kids to run around at, hop on a different attraction with a short standby queue, or do a little souvenir shopping.
Whenever we use Rider Switch for
Guardians of the Galaxy at Epcot, for example, you’ll find us over at the outdoor play area behind the
Creations Shop. My boys love that spot!
I hope that helps! And if any other questions pop up as you continue to plan your trip, let us know!
