Traditionally, what goes on at WDW for New Year's Eve? I read about the party at The contemporary but that would cost my family over $1,000; which is not an option. Do the parks have celebrations; do the resorts do anything? Thanks.

    Hi Cassie,

Happy New Year!! Oops! I may be a little early but celebrating at Walt Disney World for New Years means planning now! My family has been twice and both times we had fun!

Our first year we were in Magic Kingdom and it was packed to capacity. You could not enter Main Street unless you wanted to leave. We rode rides until the end of the night. We watched the fireworks from Frontierland because it was less crowded and we could ride Big Thunder Mountain with almost no lines.

Our second time was with our best friends two years ago. This time we chose Epcot as the kids were older and Epcot has more space. Each country hosted its own party. One of our favorites was in Japan with its silent dance party. You could only hear the music of the dueling DJs if you were wearing headphones. You could switch back and forth between the two and it was fun.

Both of these nights we paid only park admission. Each resort might have something as well. The best place to look for New Year Eve events is here or on the Disney Parks Blog.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
