1st time with 9/10yr old in the last wk of Aug. Staying at the Port Orleans Riverside and have a 7:20am reservations at Chef Mickey's. How early do we need to leave and what is the quickest way?Do you recommend bringing towels from home for water parks?

    Hi Michele,

Honestly, the easiest way for you to get to your early Chef Mickey's reservation is to take a taxi. If you're at the Bell Services desk at POR by about 6:45 a.m. then you'll have plenty of time for them to call you a cab and get to your meal on time. The cost should be somewhere in the neighborhood of $15.

If you want to take Disney's free transportation, you should stop by the front desk of POR to confirm what time the "early character meal buses" will start running. Typically this will be at about 6:15 and you should be there at the start. When you get on a bus, it will be up to the discretion of the driver whether to take you directly to the Contemporary or to drop you at the Magic Kingdom or the Transportation and Ticket Center where you can take the monorail to your meal.

Personally, I wouldn't bring towels from home to the water parks, mostly because I find them too bulky in my luggage. Towels are available for rental at the water parks for $2 each (prices can change). You can find a lengthy discussion about water park towels on the independent website blog.touringplans.com. Search there for an article called, "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Towels at Walt Disney World." You can find some other perspectives on this issue in the comments there.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
