Hi there, Patricia! Thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! When I spoke to a Cast Member at Guest Relations, she said the American Flag is always raised before Park opening, and that there is no set time or ceremony. However, there are plenty of patriotic moments to be had each and every day at Walt Disney World Resort.
With all the hustle and bustle going on at Magic Kingdom Park, many Guests don't even notice that there is a daily
Flag Retreat ceremony at 5:00 PM in Town Square on Main Street, U.S.A. It is a heartwarming tribute to veterans for their service, sacrifice, and dedication to our country, and in my opinion, it is "not to be missed!" While you're in the Park, take time to see
The Hall of Presidents, which is a 25 minute show in Liberty Square. The highlight for me is when Abraham Lincoln delivers the Gettysburg Address.
If you happen to be staying at
Disney's Wilderness Lodge, you can inquire at the Front Desk about being "Flag Family of the Day." Each day, a lucky family is chosen to accompany a Cast Member to raise the five flags that fly over the resort: the American Flag, the Florida State flag, the Walt Disney World Resort flag, and two Wilderness Lodge flags.
Patricia, if you need to add a little red, white, and blue to your wardrobe before your trip, check out the
shopDisney website. I've been eyeing up the Minnie Mouse Americana Ear Headband for myself!
