Hi Natalka,
Welcome to planDisney and thank you so much for asking us a runDisney question!
The
runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend is quickly becoming one of my favourite runDisney race weekends. I love the fact that the Challenge includes all 3 of the weekend’s race events and the theming has just been perfect every year. Plus, there are (often) days when I’m just not feeling the full 13.1 miles of a half marathon, so a 10 mile run is the perfect “compromise” distance for me.
runDisney races typically require a 16 minute per mile pace throughout the course. This would mean that, for the
Hakuna Matata 10 miler, you would have 160 minutes, or approximately two hours and 40 minutes to complete the course. That said, the official race pacers start counting that 160 as of when the last person crosses the start line, which means that, if you start in an earlier corral, you’ll have some extra time to finish the course.
Tip: If that pace seems a bit ambitious to you for now (and it certainly was for me when I first started running), don’t give up!
runDisney has some excellent training guides to help you achieve your goals on race day. I’d recommend trying to hit a 15:00 or 15:30 pace during your training runs and being sure to take plenty of walk breaks as you work your way up to the required pace. Be kind to yourself – these are long runs, so a slow and steady approach will allow you to “win” your race!
Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions. We’re always happy to help!
Have a Magical Day,
Lynne
