Welcome aboard, Jose! What a magical adventure you'll be embarking on this summer when you set sail from Copenhagen on the Disney Magic! I loved every moment of my European adventures with Disney Cruise Line a few years ago, so I'm sure yours will be just as memorable!
I haven't been to
Helsinki with Disney yet, but hope to make it there one day! That being said, any port that you visit will offer fabulous Disney Cruise Line Port Adventures. Most guests choose to set out in port on one of Disney's adventures because besides offering exciting insider access to the most popular attractions and locations, there is so much more security in knowing that Disney has taken care of all of the details. You would not miss the ship on a Disney adventure, as the ship will always know where you are, and if a
Disney Port Adventure is running late, they are in contact with the ship. However, as you have experienced, venturing out on your own, while fun and definitely doable, can leave you stuck and rushing to make the ship's departure if you run into an unexpected delay. I have heard of cases where guests have missed the ship entirely as they spent the day exploring on their own, and didn't get back to the ship when the last all aboard time occurred. You certainly don't want that to happen! So, I do recommend sticking with Disney's Port Adventures.
However, if you do choose a different experience in port, I suggest that you plan to be back to the ship two hours before departure time. This way, you'd have plenty of leeway in the event of an unexpected delay in your return. My family and I have set out in ports on our own before, and while it's been wonderful, I do always feel more secure when we're out on a Disney Port Adventure, Jose.
Have a magical cruise!
