Hi Danielle, thank you for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I love the idea of a girls trip for you and your daughter to experience all the magic of
runDisney together!
From an eligibility standpoint, runDisney requires participants to be 5 years of age on race day to participate in their 5K events and she has to be able to complete the 5K on her own. The other guideline is that she must be able to maintain a pace of 16 minutes per mile, but this is paced when the time the very last participant starts, so as long as you aren't at the back of the pack, I'd aim for completing it under an hour and you'll be fine!
Now that the rules are covered, I honestly think it's a brilliant idea! It's something for you and her to look forward to together and from your 'training' you'll have quality time leading up to the race as well. The other thing I want to mention for you to consider is that it can be an early morning for a little one. Most of the 5Ks start at 6:00 AM and require you to be on the bus at about 4:00 AM. Some kids are early risers and this is no issue at all, but for others the lack of sleep could make it less enjoyable.
You as her Mommy know her better than any one else and I think you'll make a great choice for both of you! With that being said I can't wait for the day my little one is 5 and hopefully he'll want to join me out on the course for a "Mommy & Me" runcation!
If y'all decide to sign up, I want to recommend you check out the
Royal Guest Rooms at Disney's Port Orleans Resort- Riverside. From the fireworks display over the beds, to the portraits of the Princesses on the wall, there are magical touches throughout that I think you'll love discovering together. Honestly the room was made for a girls weekend!
