I am thinking about taking my first Disney cruise for my son’s birthday. Are there any special things that can be booked on the ship to make his birthday special?

Ahoy, Simone! I'm so happy you thought to visit planDisney with your question. I'd love to help make your first Disney Cruise and your son's birthday, as magical as possible!

One way you can set the tone for your special sailing is with birthday decorations in your stateroom! You can order decor from the Onboard Gifts section of the Disney Cruise Line website. If you shop by theme and select birthday, you can view the stateroom decor and also the selection of birthday treats available to order to enhance your celebration. Stateroom decor will be set up for you so that as you enter your stateroom on the day of your sailing, the surprise will be there and waiting!

As I just mentioned birthday treats, ordering a cake or a cupcake is another way to mark the occasion. There is no shortage of desserts onboard, but for some guests, it's not a birthday without a birthday cake, so Disney Cruise Line has you covered. All cake and cupcake orders must be made at least seven days before you embark on your sailing.

Depending upon your son's interests, there are a few extra special experiences onboard. There are makeovers at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique that are tailored to those who would like to dress like a captain, knight, or even a pirate! Appointments can be made at this enchanted salon when your booking window opens, 75 days before your sailing as a first-time guest of Disney Cruise Line.

If you'll be sailing aboard the Disney Wish, and your son is a fan of Frozen, you may consider reserving Olaf's Royal Picnic, an extra-special event with Olaf, Kristoff, Anna, and Elsa. This experience includes a delicious picnic, exclusive entertainment, and an assortment of gifts for every child in attendance.

One final suggestion for you, Simone, is to make note that you will be celebrating a birthday during your sailing. You can do this when you log into the Disney Cruise Line website and select your reservation or within the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. In the app, select your reservation and scroll down to press the "Review Options" button. This will lead you through a series of choices such as dining time, pre-paid gratuities, and travel options. The final one will allow you to make special requests. Select the "Celebrations" option and choose Birthday from the menu.

I hope you find this information helpful! Please return to planDisney if you have any further questions as you prepare for your first Disney Cruise. It will be the most magical celebration!

    Happy Planning,
