Ahoy Tara!
Welcome back to planDisney. I have to say, I think an August sailing on
Disney Dream sounds like a wonderful vacation plan! My family has enjoyed this ship twice and we've made the most magical memories together both times. I think our favorite onboard activity was watching the live production of
Beauty and the Beast, but there are so many amazing experiences awaiting you!
A Guaranteed Verandah Stateroom with Restrictions (VGT) requires payment in full at the time of booking and is considered non-refundable. While you won't be able to choose your own Stateroom, you'll be placed in accommodations of the same or higher category which you booked. Assignments are made based on availability for each particular sailing, and once booked you won't be able to change your sail date or room category.
When you book your cruise you are accepting the conditions outlined in the
Cruise Contract. As part of the RIGHT TO CHANGE ITINERARY/DETENTION section of the
Terms & Conditions, Disney Cruise Line does reserve the right to make itinerary modifications and cancellations without prior notice. In my experience, Disney Cruise Line works hard to stick to their itineraries, but unfortunately, weather and unexpected situations do arise. I've heard stories of guests receiving a Stateroom credit or a bit of pixie dust in certain instances of itinerary changes during their sailing, but this is not required and should not be expected.
I did just reach out to a Cast Member to ask about major itinerary modifications before the sailing commences and they advised that you would receive an email in that instance with specific options. You may be offered an alternate sailing or a refund, but these are handled on a case-by-case basis depending on the situation. If your cruise is canceled completely, you will also receive an email with further options and instructions. Keep in mind that if you receive a refund for your cruise fare paid you would still be responsible for any change or cancellation fees associated with your own travel to or from the ship in that instance. Travel insurance is always a good idea, but you may want to strongly consider it if you're concerned about unexpected expenses related to delays or cancellations.
You are certainly welcome to contact
Disney Cruise Line by email or
phone if you'd like to ask for further clarification on any of their policies or Cruise Contract details.
Tara, I hope this puts you at ease and helps make your decision to sail or not to sail a bit easier. If you do end up booking this voyage don't forget to take a ride on the
AquaDuck around the pool deck. It's a great way to take in the views and beat the summer heat.
Bon Voyage!
