At the theme parks, does the Help Desk still take reservations for the restaurants for that day? We were there a couple of years ago and it worked great for us. Thanks.

Guest services can try to assist you with meal reservations, but that is not generally what they do.  If you are staying on-property you can easily call Disney Dining from your room and inquire about meal reservations.

I'm not sure if you have visited Disney since they began the dining plan, but this has been a very popular program and has made meal reservations very difficult (if not impossible) to get as a walk-up.  I would not feel comfortable winging it completely without reservations, as I've heard too many stories from people who attempted that and discovered there was nothing available for them.

If there are any restaurants or character meals that are must-do's for your family then I would definitely reserve them in advance so you're not disappointed.  You may have luck with day-of availability, but I would not depend on it.
