THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP! Erin, I will be traveling with my 2yr old twins and 5 yr old and was woundering if you suggest a double stroller or two unbrella strollers? Two strollers seems like more work and no breaks from pushing? But a double is big? THX!

I remember that trip! It does get easier, I promise.

We did it both ways on different trips. The configuration that worked best for us was two umbrellas. The problem for us was not that the double was big (Hey, isn't everything big when you've got three preschoolers?), but rather that the double gave us less flexibility. We often ran into a situation where one of the twins would fall asleep in the stroller and the other would not. The sleeper might be better off with mom under a shady tree, while the waker would want to head off to another part of the park for a few more rides. We even had times when one twin needed to go back to the room for a longer rest, while the other could stay at the park. With the double, you're stuck together.

The solution we found that worked like a dream was stroller connecting clips. These are fairly inexpensive plastic clips (often less than $20) that you can use to hook two umbrella strollers together to make them into a double. The brand of these that I've seen most often is call Prince Lionheart, but I'm sure there are others. If you go on Amazon.com and search for "stroller connectors" you'll find them. You could also just Google "Prince Lionheart stroller connectors." With the clips, you can turn two strollers into one. This let one parent take both of the twins if the other needed to go off with the older child and it also allowed us flexibility to separate the twins.

Three caveats with the clips. First, the umbrella strollers you use must be the same brand/size. If they are  different sizes, the clips won't work. Second, it does take a few minutes of practice to get used to pushing the two singles together. Third, if you're getting the clips, I would actually buy two sets, and keep one in reserve in case you happen to lose the first set (as we did several times.)
