Hi Rosemary.
My family owns Disney Vacation Club points at the Wilderness Lodge. We've stayed there many times and will be doing so again this Christmas. It's a beautiful resort; you've made an excellent choice. One of the most unique experiences at the Wilderness Lodge is getting to be the
flag family that raises that flags on top of the building in the morning. You should inquire about this when you check in. If you have time to explore, there is also a lovely walking path between the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. I have often seen deer and other wildlife here. You can walk back or take the boat.
With a group of mostly adults, you'll want to make sure to book a few signature restaurants. As luck would have it, one of my favorite signature dining venues at Walt Disney World happens to be right there at the Wilderness Lodge. Artist Point is the perfect mix of relaxation and elegance. The warm wood and autumnal colors are soothing and the food is out of this world. For a more raucous dining experience, try the Whispering Canyon Cafe, right off the WL main lobby. The specialty of the house is a bottomless skillet of campfire favorites including cowboy beans, ribs, cornbread, chicken, sausage and the like. The food is delish, but it's the fun-filled servers that really make this place special.
To make things extra special, you may want to book at tour or two. The Wild Africa Trek at the Animal Kingdom would be a good choice because it is one of the few that allows children to participate. The Behind the Seeds tour at Epcot is also good for this reason.
