    Thanks for answering question about going solo & your favorite resort. When you go solo do you ever use a taxi & what have your experiences been? I am taking train to Orlando. Not sure if I should use a taxi or some other type of car service. Thank

    Hi again Karen,

    I often use taxis at Walt Disney World and have never had any problem with this. Typically, I'll use a taxi if I'm having dinner at a resort other than my own. For example, during one trip last year I was staying at the Beach Club and eating at a restaurant at the Saratoga Springs resort. To get there using Disney transportation, I'd have to walk through Epcot and get a bus to SS, or take a bus/boat to another park and then bus it to SS. While that's certainly do-able, it's also time consuming. If I'm tired at night and can save myself a lot of time, I'll take a cab. The cast members at any of the Disney hotels will be happy to get a taxi for you. They are plentiful and come quickly.

    I will add, however, that I'm very used to taking taxis in non-Disney situations. I lived in Manhattan for more than a decade and am totally comfortable with cabs in general. (And by the way, Orlando cab drivers are MUCH saner than NY cab drivers.)

    If you're thinking about using a taxi to get from the Amtrak station, you may want to look at the "Mears Taxi Fare Estimator" (Google that phrase and you'll find it) to get an approximation of the cost. While you can get almost anywhere on Disney property for less than a $20 cab fare, you'll find that getting from Amtrak to WDW costs substantially more than that. If budget is an issue, then you may want to investigate other options.
