Thank you Krista for the quick response. Does my 2 year old grandson have to have the dining plan to schedule character dinners. Also we purchased our tickets from Disney without a vacation package can we still add DDP. We stay at Fort Wilderness.

Hello again, Larry! I'm glad I could answer your question. Your grandson does NOT have to have a Disney Dining Plan.  Guests under the age of three may share from an adult plate at no charge at all meals. When you make your reservations, you should include your grandson in the total, though.  Even though he can share your meal at no cost, he must be counted in the number of people dining.  Walt Disney World uses this number when figuring restaurant capacity in order to comply with the fire marshal's maximum occupancy, and your grandson counts in that number.
As of this time, the Disney Dining plans are options available exclusively to Guests of Walt Disney World Resort hotels with Magic Your Way Vacation Packages.  I'm sorry to say there isn't a dining plan option for those without a package, which must include resort room and park tickets. Since you didn't purchase a package, the dining plan is not an option for you this trip. The Disney Dining plans are a great perk, but even without it, I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the cost of food and the portion sizes. Happy planning and have a Magical vacation!
