    Thank you everyone for a wonderful and insightful forum! After much planning and seeing to the details of our first trip on Nov 19, I have hyper extended my knee and can hardly walk. Is there anything I can do to better get around? I am so disappointed!

    Oh no. I'm so sorry about your injury. If you are having mobility issues, I would strongly suggest that you think about renting a wheelchair or ECV during your visit. During a typical day at WDW, it is common to walk 5-10 miles a day.

    As a first step, I would go to the website allearsnet.com. Click on the search button (near the top right) and search for an article called "Wheelchair/Scooter/Electric Convenience Vehicle (ECV) FAQ." This will give you some good basic information on the mobility assistance situation at Disney World.

    If the rent-from-Disney option does not seem right for you, there are many private companies that rent wheelchairs and ECVs in the Orlando area. Most will pick up and deliver right to your hotel. I personally do not have any experience with any particular company, so I can't make a specific recommendation. However, I will tell you that many of the non-Disney scooters I've seen in the parks are from Buena Vista Scoot Rentals (buenavistascooter.com). That's probably a good place to start your investigation. Then if you Google "Disney wheelchair rental" you'll find many more options.

    Another resource you should look for is a book called PassPorter's Open Mouse for Walt Disney World. This is the definitive guide for anyone visiting WDW with any sort of physical issue. The potential challenges with each attraction are described in great detail. You can get this book at Amazon.com or from major booksellers.
