We'll be tent camping at Fort Wilderness for the first time (2000 loop). I know that the tent pads are sand and wondered if there are any issues with getting stakes to stay in place and hold the tent. Is there a minimum length that the stakes should be?

Hi, Vern!  I am not a camper, but I made a few phone calls to my much more rugged brother, and got a few tips for you.

Standard tent stakes are not quite as successful as those designed specifically for sand.  Stakes such as these can be found at any camping store, or even in the camping section of stores like WalMart.

You may want to bring some extra rope with you as well.  This you can use to help guy out your tent to surrounding shrubs to help stabilize the tent during any windy thunderstorms.  My brother also says depending on your tent, you may want to bring an extra tarp to help keep things dry.

There is no minimum length required, but my brother said standard sand stakes should be just fine.

I knew that brother of mine would come in handy some day!  I never would have thought that when he was popping the heads off of my dolls and replacing them with GI Joe heads when we were kids!

    Have a great vacation, Vern!
