Can you tell me when the walkway between the Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom will be complete?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Wanda! One of the reasons I love staying at Disney's Contemporary Resort is its walkability to Magic Kingdom Park. For me, there's nothing better than that quick 10-minute walk during the nightly post-Happily Ever After fireworks rush!  Guests have been asking for a similar walkway for years, connecting the Magic Kingdom to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Now we no longer have to dream that our wish will come true!

Plans for this new walkway construction were announced last summer; however, the tricky part is that the bridge needs to be able to pivot back and forth and to open as necessary to allow for the Electrical Water Pageant to use the canal. Once this bridge opens, guests will be able to walk nearly the full circle of the Monorail Resorts. I've looked at recent construction photos, and while it seems well underway, I believe it will still be several months before the walkway opens to guests. I placed a call to Guest Services, but the best estimate they could give me was summer 2020. One thing I did learn, though, is that once guests near the front of Magic Kingdom Park, they will go through a security screening, similar to the one on the Contemporary path, thus avoiding the larger bag check area at the Park gates.

I hope this helps, Wanda! If you have any more questions, please visit us again soon!
