Hi Robin!
We really enjoyed the boat service between Disney’s Old Key West Resort and Downtown Disney. For my kids, any of Disney’s boat rides is like it’s own attraction! The actual time on the boat from dock to dock is approximately 20 minutes, but you should plan on additional time for loading and unloading. The boat takes you to the Downtown Disney Marketplace where currently you will find Starbucks, Wolfgang Puck Express, Earl of Sandwich, and the Rainforest Cafe.
While I do recommend taking the boat and dining at Downtown Disney at some point, especially if you would like to spend a leisurely day shopping, I would not recommend it as quick place to eat breakfast or lunch before heading to the parks. Boat service usually does not begin until 11:00 a.m. and only runs hourly until 4:00 p.m., at which point it runs on the half hour. If getting your meal and heading to the park quickly is your priority, I would recommend either eating in your villa, or if you would prefer dining out, I would dine at
Good’s Food to Go, the quick service location at Disney's Old Key West Resort for a quick and filling breakfast option. It is located near the boat launch at the Hospitality House, so after dining you can easily catch a bus to the theme parks. We usually eat in our Deluxe Villa before heading into the parks. Bagels and cream cheese, cold or hot cereal are easy and affordable options that can be made even in a Deluxe Studio kitchenette.
I hope this is helpful, Robin. Please let me know if you have any additional questions as you plan your trip. I love helping Guests to make each trip magical.
Happy Planning!
