Could you tell me how deep the waterways are that run behind some of the cabins at Fort Wilderness? Would we be better off to avoid those particular cabins if we have young children who might play outside?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Julie! You’re going to have such an amazing Holiday stay at The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort!

Florida’s waterway depths vary so much, you never really know how deep those canals can be. Swimming is not permitted at any of the surrounding waterways at the resort, but you can rent a kayak or canoe for the day. Guided Bass Fishing Excursions are also available, for 2 hours or 4 hours, on Bay Lake.

Julie, if having a canal near your cabin is a big concern, you can absolutely request a cabin that is not close to a waterway. In my experience, I’ve never been assigned a cabin near a canal. My girls and their two doggies have enjoyed lots of playtime outside of our cabin during our vacations! To add the request to your reservation, just call (407) 824-2900. A friendly Cast Member will be happy to help you.

Christmastime is the best time to stay at the Fort Wilderness property. Guests (myself included) love decorating their golf carts to get into the Holiday spirit. There are also so many decorations at cabins and campsites to enjoy. It’s almost like a little community, celebrating in their own Disney inspired winter wonderland!

I hope this information has been helpful to you. Feel free to stop in to see us if you have any more planning questions. Helping you with the details of your magical Holiday adventure at the Walt Disney World Resort is our pleasure!
