Hi there, David! Thanks so much for coming to planDisney to ask your question.
A spontaneous trip is such a fun idea! Depending on your comfort level with planning a Walt Disney World vacation, you might consider getting in touch with an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner to help you out. Their services are free, and they are the experts who can advise you about the best place to stay, tickets, and help plan out a fun itinerary. Ask a friend for a recommendation, or there are tons of groups online where you can find a reputable travel agent.
When I was just taking a look at the Walt Disney World website, it seems like December availability is a little scarce. This is another reason I would suggest trusting a travel professional to assist you. Their job is to research, and Disney pays them a commission. You pay the exact same amount that you would pay if you booked on your own.
Some fun things happening in December are the
Candlelight Processional at EPCOT,
Disney Very Merriest After Hours at Magic Kingdom, and of course, the most wonderful decorations of the year! Do not miss touring the Gingerbread House at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa – it is one of my absolute favorite things about the holidays at Walt Disney World. Also, the resorts all get into the holiday spirit with fun decorations, so plan for a few meals outside the parks to experience even more holiday magic. One of my favorite resorts to visit at the holidays is Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. This
Disney Parks Blog article talks all about holiday offerings around WDW.
I hope this helps with planning your December visit to The Most Magical Place on Earth.
Happy Traveling,
Tracy
