I will be taking my 7-1/2 year old grandson to WDW. Wondering about using park bathrooms unattended (or is 7-1/2 too old to come into the women’s bathroom with me)? Are there family bathrooms available? Escorts? Any insight would be appreciated.

    Hi Lisa,

One of the things I love so much about Disney World is that it is convenient and accessible for everyone. Although it is weird to say, the bathrooms at Disney World are just as magical as the rest of the theme parks. I am a girl who can appreciate a good bathroom and this adds to the convenient experience for me especially when traveling with kids.

Throughout Disney World, there are family or companion restrooms where you can provide assistance and utilize shared bathroom resources. These are gender-neutral so you can go in together or you can send your grandson in by himself and not worry about him because he will be in there alone. These individual restrooms can be found right near almost every bathroom location in Disney World and are clearly labeled as Companion Restrooms. Many people worry that these are only for disability access but they are intended for anyone who needs a little more privacy while utilizing the restroom. I used them a lot when my kids were younger and I didn't want them running into the men's restroom without me.

I recommend downloading and getting familiar with the My Disney Experience App. The app has a fabulous map for navigating restaurants, restrooms, rides, and attractions. No matter where you are in the theme parks, you can click on the map icon in the app and then filter at the top on restrooms to get directions to the bathroom closest to you. It will also have information on whether or not that location also features a companion restroom.

You and your grandson are going to have an amazing time bonding on your Disney World vacation. I would make sure to make a few reservations for character dining experiences while you are visiting. Your grandson is the perfect age to enjoy the exciting moment that Mickey Mouse visits him at the table and it gives you a little time to rest your feet during the day. I normally schedule these for lunch because I need the time to relax and put my feet up.

    Happy Planning
