we will be taking our son to DW and staying at AKL for 21 nights. He will be turning 6 during our stay. As its our first visit we are unsure about lots of things. Can you tell us if we need to pre book for the shows?

    Hi Jade,

You have a very lucky pirate! Do you need another first mate to enjoy Animal Kingdom for all those days?;)

First trips to Disney can be overwhelming but you have more than enough time to cover the Walt Disney World Resorts. I would visit this site to get  answers as well as the main Disney site. Also, you may want to look at Mousesavers.com or Allearnet.com for tip and tricks as well. Finally, a guide such as the Unofficial Guide to Disney or Passporter could be a help planning your trip as well.

I would make sure you let everyone know about your pirate's birthday. Stop at the Guest Services desk at any of the four major parks for a pin which will have Castmembers and guests wishing him "Happy Birthday" throughout the trip. Also, tell your server at meals you have a birthday and watch the fun begin.

As for the shows, you do not have to prebook shows such as Festival of the Lion King or Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. If you want to see Cirque du Soleil or Hoop Dee Doo Revue, these need to be prepaid in advance as well as the Dinner and a show for Fantasmic!

    Have a great trip!
