We are taking our son to Disney for his 5th birthday in September and were wondering if Fantasmic will be too scary for him? He loves fireworks and water shows, but has me turn down the volume if we watch a cartoon with a scary part. Thanks!

Hi Jennifer! I love talking Disney with my fellow North Carolina residents! I don't think there's a better birthday present than a trip to Disney World -- your son is so lucky!

Fantasmic is a mesmerizing show with appearances by lots of the Disney characters, but some elements of the performance can be frightening for young children. My own daughter saw Fantasmic for the first time at age 8, and even at that age, she thought it was very scary. The show can be dark and loud and the Disney villains have prominent roles. As much as I love Fantasmic, I definitely think some young children may find it terrifying, and you certainly wouldn't want your son to have nightmares on his vacation. Because every child is different, I recommend that you preview Fantasmic by watching a video of the show on a site like That way, you'll know what to expect and whether it's a show that your son would enjoy.
Hope this helps you decide. Come visit me again at the Moms Panel if you have more questions! I'm happy to help!
