We're taking our 7 & 4 kids on a cruise out of Tx in Oct. Will it still be warm enough to swim? After you pay for your cruise is there anything on board we would need to pay for? Do the kids get dressed up a lot on formal night too? Thank You

Welcome aboard, Heather! You must be so excited to set sail with Disney Cruise Line this fall!

While I can't predict the weather exactly, most likely it'll be a bit cooler that first day you set sail. Then, once you get south into the Caribbean, you'll be very warm and comfortable! We've sailed even in January and February and felt perfectly comfortable, sometimes even hot! So, October should be very nice.

You will want to set some extra money aside for gratuities which are traditionally presented to those Cast Members onboard with whom you'll have the most contact. Traditionally, guests tip per night, per person (paid all at once on the last day of the cruise). $4/day to server, $4/day Stateroom Host, $3/day assistant server and $1/day head server. Again, these dollar amounts are per person (including children), per night. You may actually pre-pay your tips over the phone ahead of time with Disney if you'd prefer, but we like to wait until the end and usually end up giving a bit more since we've always received such amazing service!

You'll also want some money for souvenirs, adult beverages, and to pay for Port Adventures or Adult Exclusive Dining. I highly recommend Palo, if you haven't read about it already. It's an amazing dining experience well worth the additional cost! But, make reservations early as it is a popular spot!

On Formal Night, you'll see everything from tuxedos and formal gowns to sports coats and ties and more simple summer dresses. My daughter likes to wear a princess dress that night, and my son usually wears a coat and tie or suit, but a little boy would be fine in dress pants and a dress shirt if you don't have a full suit for him. Throw a tie on him if you can and you'll be all set for some wonderful photo opportunities with the Disney characters who will be dressed in their formal best too!

I hope that helps as you continue to plan, Heather! Let me know if you have further questions! I'm happy to help!
