Hello! I am taking my four kids to Disney World Februrary 2-15, 2014. We are renting a house just outside of Disney World. The ages of my kids are 17, 14, 6 and 4 at time of travel. I have never traveled before, never mind been to Disney World. HELP!

Hi Angela! There's no more magical destination for a first trip than Walt Disney World! Disney has lots to please visitors of every age, so I know you and your four kids are going to have so much fun!

When I'm planning my own Disney vacations, I start by consulting the park calendars for the dates of my trip. The calendars tell you the operating hours of each park, and if you click on a park, you can see the times of shows, parades and character greetings. Use this information to plan which park  to visit each day. Since you are staying off site, I recommend that you avoid visiting the park that's hosting Extra Magic Hours each day since the park hosting those exclusive hours for Disney resort hotel guests can be more crowded than the other parks. If you want to see a certain parade or fireworks show, plan your park schedule around those performances.

Once you've made a schedule of the parks you plan to visit each day, then you can make your dining reservations at restaurants in or near those parks. Knowing the park hours and performance times enables you to book a character breakfast before a park opens or make sure you'll be finished with dinner in time to watch an evening parade. You can peruse the menus of all the restaurants on the Disney website to find the ones that will appeal most to your family's tastes. Chef Mickey's is a fun restaurant for meeting Mickey and friends, and if your little ones are princess fans you'll want to consider a meal at Akershus or Cinderella's Royal Table with them. A dinner show like the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue will appeal to all members of your family -- it's so much fun!
