We are taking our first trip to Disney 4/5-4/13. I notice a lot of the rides you get wet. Should we invest in a waterproof pack to keep our belongings, or do things stay dry? Thanks

There are really only two attractions at the theme parks where you could expect you or your belongings to get significantly wet: Splash Mountain at the Magic Kingdom and Kali River Rapids at the Animal Kingdom. On Splash Mountain, almost everyone will get a little splashed and a few people will get quite wet. On Kali River Rapids, everyone and everything will get soaked. (Even if I wear a poncho on this ride I still always end up sopping wet. Happy, but wet.)

For just these two attractions, I wouldn't think it would be worth the expense to purchase new backpacks. You could totally protect your belongings with a plastic shopping bag or two. All the gift shops in the parks have fairly large plastic bags. Just pop your regular backpack into one of these while you're on the attraction and you should be perfectly fine.

Just FYI -- on Kali River Rapids, there is a bin at the center of the ride vehicle which is covered and is supposed to provide a safe, dry place for your belongings. I have often found these bins to be quite damp. I'd get the plastic bag, just in case.
